Ch-Ch-Ch Chia!

With all the misleading labels and misinformation about what’s really organic or natural these days, picking all-around healthy foods can get confusing. Enter: the chia seed. These little seeds, which look like poppy seeds, are chock-full of essential nutrients and are super easy to incorporate into your diet. And yes — they are the same seeds you used as a kid to grow your Chia Pet! To give everyone a chance to get to know how incredible these tiny seeds are, The Chia Company is hosting an “Australian Open” — a showcase for their Australian grown chia seeds — at the Openhouse flagship location at 201 Mulberry Street in SoHo. While the weekend-long chia extravaganza is invitation-only, we’ll be tweeting pics and updates throughout to keep you posted on what we learn about this tiny super-seed.

Following a VIP Launch Party with DJ Brendan Fallis, is the afore-mentioned table tennis tournament, with 16 teams competing, including teams from Well+Good, Volley, Wine Awesomeness, Thrillist, and Refinery29. The tourney celebrates Australia’s most iconic sporting event, The Australian Open (and the superfood The Chia Company grows) and should be highly competitive, considering the bevy of media participants involved.

For those who want to know a little bit more about The Chia Co’s products, they are avaliable in shot-sized packets for a quick source of Omega 3, fiber and protein. Once you’re sold on Chia, you can buy the product in larger bags to create all kinds of chia meals at home, or in ‘Chia Pods’ for some chia on the go. With just three ingredients: chia, coconut milk, and mango, blueberry, bananas, or vanilla, this pudding-like snack is where it’s at when it comes to taste and nutrition.

You can find The Chia Co’s products at Whole Foods, Duane Reade and your local grocery and health food retailers.
