RS Fest’s line up of rockin’ acts at the pop-up park: Freelance Whales, Deer Tick, MNDR + Ximena Sarinana

Rolling Stone is rocking summer all winter long at Openhouse Gallery’s Park Here. Yesterday RS Fest brought a trio of acts to the pop-up park. First up was Dawes, the beautifully harmonic rock band on Dave Matthews’ ATO Records (who also performed down at Occupy Wall Street). They were followed by Hacienda, a hard-rocking Texas-based group produced by Dan Auerbach. Closing out the RS Fest concert series was the Music Unites Youth Choir (my personal favorite).

RS Fest continues on Monday with four FOUR! free concerts. Freelance Whales, the Queens indie rockers who met on Craigslist and ended up on a Twitter promo video, go first. Ximena Sarinana, the triple-Grammy-nominated singer from Mexico, starts her show at 2:30. Deer Tick is shedding its folk reputation by bringing a raw, heartfelt sound to their new CD, and MNDR (who’s remixed Freelance Whales) is bringing its electronica to Park Here in early evening. Don’t miss the performances, and RSVP ASAP cause these will be full quickly.
