Starting Thursday July 14, Openhouse Gallery will be hosting Remezcla and Heineken’s The Spot – a half-month of Latino music, movies, lounging and digital art battles. The Spot pop up runs from July 13 to Saturday July 30 and features Tego Calderon, Mexican Dubwiser, Nacotheque, Mala Rodriguez and way, way more. Enough Latino infusion to make Heineken add a couple eñe. Check out the schedule below and RSVP to your favorite events.

Thursday July 14 starting at 7 pm and starring: Carla Morrison, who, with Nick Kizer + Nichole Petta, was named Best Indie Band of Arizona in 2008; Argentine strummer Diego Garcia, Rey Pila and DJs Solo Dame Indie Pop! Friday July 15 starting at 7 pm and starring: Tego Calderon, the Puerto Rican native with a rugged Reggaeton sound, has toured all over South and Central America, Africa, England, Europe and now Openhouse Gallery in Nolita. With five CDs and six movie appearances, you know The Spot pop up will be packed. Remezcla pairs Calderon with DJ Willie, the New York spinner with about as many touring miles as Calderon. Saturday July 16 starting at 10 pm and starring: The DJ collective Peligrosa All-Stars who count DJ Shadow and fellow Spotter Mexican Dubwiser as influences, and will be burning steel at Openhouse Gallery on Saturday July 16. The Latin house music will flow into DJ Sabo followed by DJ Geko Jones and Uproot Andy, two cumbia creators who formed Que Bajo?! Wednesday July 20 starting at 7 pm and starring: A digital art battle so secret even Heineken + Remezcla don’t know about it yet. Thursday July 21 starting at 7 pm and starring: Panamanian Los Rakas who brought south of the border styles to Oakland and Austin’s SXSW in 2011; the mischievous Maluca Mala from NYC; Brazilian Zuzuka Poderosa who “packs New York nightclubs like sardines”; and DJ Comrade, a staple at Bembe in Brooklyn and Nu Blu in the East Village. Mala Rodriguez
WEEK 3
Wednesday July 27 starting at 7 pm and starring: A screening of Downtown Calling; and DJ Johnny Dynell + DJ Sal Principato. Calling looks at the musical and artistic creativity that exploded in New York City during the late 1970s and features Mos Def, Bobbito Garcia, DJ AM and Ed Koch. Dynell and Principato are in the documentary as well and will perform after the movie. Thursday July 28 starting at 7 pm and starring: The 11-piece Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra; The Fania All-Stars, a 1960s Latino trailblazing group; covering songs by Arcade Fire, Animal Collective, TV On The Radio, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs and more. Classic tracks with a salsa infusion. Friday July 29 starting at 8 pm and starring: Vico C and Mala Rodriguez. Vico has been putting out Reggaeton since he was 14 and has more than 20 LPs to his name. Saturday July 30 starting at 10 pm and starring: Nacotheque and Mexican Institute of Sound. Mexican Institute of Sound is like Tom Green mixed with Bon Iver and Camilo Lara (the Institute) will have you laughing silly + dancing silly at the same time. Nacotheque’s house music will make you feel like you’re on an epic journey.
